The nutritional needs of someone with cancer undergoing treatment and recovering from illness are complex. The patient may lose his or her appetite, making it even more difficult to obtain the adequate and essential nutrition needed to keep the body healthy during a taxing time.

AYA cancers are not as well researched as the cancers that children or the elderly are diagnosed with. The etiology, course of treatment, supportive care, and survivorship issues for the cancers that the AYA population get need more attention.
